The occasion was a happy one, but you couldn’t tell from the music. To the casual observer, this music, classic cantorial pieces, recorded off old scratchy 78’s would have been equally appropriate at a funeral. These pieces, by such masters as Leibele Waldman, Leibele Glantz, Pierre Pintchik and Yossele Rosenblatt, were taken from the prayers that were offered in synagogue. Some were pleas to the Most High for mercy, some were reminders of Jewish law, some were passages of scripture set to music…
