When we think of space, we tend to envision it as an “emptiness” – a nothingness. Objects – things –
are located in space, but space itself seems empty to us. But modern science has shown that
space is not empty, but rather it is a “plenum” – a fullness – a thing in itself. It is filled with energy,
vibrations, cosmic rays and thought. It is interesting that while modern science has recently arrived
at this understanding, the ancients understood this very well.

Space, says the scientific community, has a shape. It is curved. I would venture to say that it is a
circle – perhaps an oval. This is how the ancients understood it.

The 12 signs of the zodiac are really describing the properties of space itself. Each segment of
space has particular properties. The circle of space is ONE, but each segment is a uniqueness in
this ONE. The planets are like objects occupying this space and as they travel through each
segment they behave a bit differently – they are influenced by the segment of space that they are in.
To give an example, if you observe a row of houses on the same block, each house will have a
different vibration – a different feeling. This is experiential. The feeling is not the same in each
House. Yet, theoretically, they all contain the same space.

So the zodiac is not only telling us the nature of space around our planet, but on a deeper level is
telling us about the nature of the circle itself – the first enclosed natural space – every circle. Every
circle has a beginning (wherever you choose to start) – the Aries segment, an ending – the Pisces
segment. It has a middle – the Libra segment – the point of balance. It has a high point (Capricorn)
and a low point (Cancer). The other segments take their cue from their relationship to the above.
